BIODATA

Associate Professor Dr. Norzaidi Haji Mohd Daud (email: zaidiuitm2000@yahoo.com; h/p: 6 012-686 0035) received his doctorate degree (Ph.D) in Management from Multimedia University, Malaysia under the Universiti Teknologi MARA Graduate Scholarship. Previously, he was a visiting Professor at King Saud University, Saudi Arabia, Head of Integrated Information and Publication Centre, Institute of Business Excellence (IBE), and Head of IT Support, Research Management Institute (RMI), UiTM. Recently, he has published 7 books and over 80 articles in ISI WOS/WOK, SCOPUS, ERA journal outlets as well as conference proceedings. Moreover, his research works had won 2 international best paper awards (Germany and Czech Republic), 67 innovation awards (Geneve, Brussels, Pittsburg, Seoul, ITEX, MTE, IPTA Expo, PECIPTA, IID, BIID etc.); Panel of Jury-Kumpulan Inovasi dan Kreativiti (KIK), Prime Minister Department; Chief of Jury, Innovation Award (AIJPM), Prime Minister Department; Chief of Jury-Ministry of Home, Innovation Honorary Speaker, Ministry of Human Resource, Leading Researcher by Example Award in 2007, Oustanding Club & Society Advisor Award in 2002 and listed in Malaysia Who's Who 2013/2014 as well as AcademicKeys Who's Who 2013

"Horor Stories of PhD"

Dalam minggu lepas saya terserempak dengan sahabat lama yang baru selesai interview kemasukan PhD di GBS. Sambil bersembang-sembang, terkeluar cerita, horor stories of PhD. Sememangnya bagi bakal calon PhD, cerita horor PhD ini kalau boleh hendak dibuang jauh-jauh, kerana takut-takut terkena pada diri sendiri. Bukan apa kalau silap langkah kita pula menambah koleksi horor stories tu.

Contoh horor stories of PhD

Kes pertama: Calon PhD mengikuti pengajian di luar negara dan dalam tahun ke 4 pengajian, penyelia utama beliau (tidak ada penyelia bersama) meninggal dunia kerana sakit tua. Calon ditakdirkan dapat penyelia baru, dan beliau kena mula PhD beliau dengan topik yang baru selepas 4 tahun pengajian! Balik la jawabnya...

Kes kedua: Calon PhD mengikuti pengajian dalam negara dan berjaya sehingga viva-voce examination. Beliau terpaksa 'mengharungi' ujian yang berat dalam viva-voce examination, kerana penyelia utama dan pemeriksa mempunyai masalah peribadi. Buat masa sekarang beliau belum mendapat tandatangan pemeriksa berkenaan kerana "masalah siapa lebih bagus" antara pemeriksa dengan penyelia pelajar!

Kes ketiga: Calon PhD berjaya menjejaki pengajian di luar negara dan menunggu sehingga 6 tahun untuk viva-voce examination. Beliau berjaya dalam viva-voce exam dengan minor correction. Selepas segala pembetulan dibuat dan dihantar ke pemeriksa, beliau hanya dianugerahkan MSc (bukannya PhD) walaupun beliau telah membuat segala pembetulan yang dicadangkan dan diterima oleh pemeriksa berkenaan! Nota: Masalah peribadi antara penyelia utama dan pemeriksa.

Hah...banyak lagi horor stories of PhD, tapi teruskan membaca...

Bagi saya bakal calon PhD, janganlah terlalu resah atau mengambil pusing 'horor stories' ini sebab, takdir dan rezeki anda ditentukan oleh-Nya. Saya selalu ingat bahawa setiap perkara dan kejadian itu adalah kehendak-Nya. Kalau ada rezeki dapat, kalau tidak, mungkin ada hikmahnya. Sebenarnya ada banyak cerita yang ceria mengenai PhD.

Sebagai contoh;

Cerita ceria PhD 1: Calon PhD berjaya menjejakkan kaki di Ivy League university, top 3 in the world. Beliau berjaya menyerahkan tesis dalam dua tahun lebih dan berjaya mendapat PhD selepas 2 bulan menunggu. Keputusan viva-voce exam beliau, lulus sepenuhnya tanpa sebarang pembetulan! Walla...

Cerita ceria PhD 2: Calon PhD menyambung pengajian dalam negeri. Dalam tempoh pengajian, pelajar boleh dikatakan 'honey moon'. Betul-betul honey moon sebab dalam tempoh pengajian, beliau dapat ke luar negara sebanyak 6 kali di USA, dan Eropah dan berjaya memenangi anugerah dan menerbitkan artikel dalam jurnal terkemuka. Viva-voce examination pula hanya mengambil masa 30 minit aje! Soalan paling mencabar daripada examiner "Boleh anda kongsi bersama kami bagaimana anda berjaya sebegini rupa?!" Gulp...

Dari cerita-cerita yang saya kongsikan di atas adalah untuk renungan kita semua. InsyaAllah rezeki PhD anda sentiasa ada, it just a matter of time...banyakkan usaha, berdoa dan bertawakkal...dan jangan lupa kalau ada rezeki pergilah umrah @ haji mohon pada Allah untuk permudahkan pengajian anda...

Kalau tak, boleh la makan nasi dagang & keropok lekor.

Ngeri dan seronok membaca cerita2 PhD. Memang ternyata banyak cabarannya. Belum mula dah terasa bahangnya. Rasa nak putus asa dan nak meneruskan, boleh dikatakan sama banyak!
